Scholarships
With over $1 Million in scholarships awarded since 1979, the EGIF Scholarship program is a visionary act of philanthropy in Chicagoland. EGIF’s pioneering investment in the education of young people has nurtured a generation of leaders whose achievements and contributions to the social good continue to change the world. This remarkable legacy provides two categories of scholarships:
• The Edward G. Irvin Foundation Scholarship is given in the amount of $5,000 ($1,250 disbursed annually over 4 years) per recipient.
• The Summerowner Scholarship is a one-time award given in the amount of $1,000 per recipient.
Student Spotlight
Thank you so much for investing in Matthew Robinson, University of Chicago Alumnus, ‘20, Mount Carmel Alum, & EGIF Scholarship recipient. He GRADUATED yesterday … Thank God! We celebrated many of his accolades with family and friends at the Jackson Park Japanese Gardens.
I/we appreciate the role each of you played in Matt’s life and the lives of the other scholarship recipients. Without your support, Matt wouldn’t have attended this institution; traveled to Beijing; participated in one of John Rogers’ summer programs, and received awesome mentorship / quality time thanks to Emmitt Horne. I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Torrence Moore for supporting his Link Unlimited Scholars’ membership as well as his EGIF scholarship application. I can’t forget Rob McGhee’s financial support via Citi Bank and his words of encouragement to Matt. Lastly, he thought highly of James Alexander who allowed him to introduce the keynote at the Scholarship Luncheon. That opportunity meant so much to Matt and his mother. All of you have played a pivotal role in Matt’s life under the leadership of Mr. Major Armstead.
Just know, the work of EGIF and the Chicago Alumni Chapter is invaluable to these young men, our families, and our communities at-large. THANK YOU for your unwavering support throughout the years and years to come … The Chicago Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi ROCKS!!!
Much respect,
Pamela Brown
